Students Together Opposing prejudice (S.T.O.P.) - January through March
7th and 8th Graders and Parents: This year you are eligable to join the Students Together Opposing prejudice (S.T.O.P.) program.
Have you ever been treated unfairly, and no one stood up for you? Have you ever felt badly because you saw someone being treated unfairly and you did not know what to do?
Each year over 60 teenagers from grades 7 to 12 meet once a week for seven weeks to share their ex-periences and thoughts about prejudice and what kids can do to help each other.
Through games, ac-tivities, and discussions they discover how to recognize stereotyping and discrimination and what to do when it happens to YOU! And along the way, they have
FUN, form new friendships with the high school kids who lead many of the lessons and role-playing activities.
S.T.O.P. meets for 7 Wednesday evenings from January to March. We meet in the function rooms of St Elizabeth’s, Our Lady of Fatima, Temple Beth El, First Parish and the Islamic Center of Wayland. If this sounds interesting to you, email us and we will send you our brochure with more details and an application to join. Invite your friends. We would love to have them. Our plans are in motion and the teen leaders are in training NOW. We need to hear from you soon, if you are interested.
For questions or comments please contact Lisa Barnes or email S.T.O.P..
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper and Talent Show - February 21
We are looking forward to the Annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper and Talent Show.
Pancakes will begin at 5:30 pm and the Talent Show will follow.
Start preparing your presentation now for the Annual Talent Show. This follows the Annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper that begins at 5:30 pm with the Talent Show starting at 7:00 pm. The Youth Choir will be singing selections from the Muppet Show to begin and end the evening. We know that there are many talented members of St. E's with heretofore hidden abilities. The performances are suggested to be 3 – 5 minutes to allow as many people as possible a chance to sing, dance, play an instrument, juggle, demonstrate yoga or magic tricks or perform in a skit.
Please let Mary Sue know what you plan to do, with titles and names of performers and approximate length of performance so that we may organize this amazing yearly
entertainment. If you would like to volunteer to help with this event, decorating, serving etc contact Mary Sue.
For more information please email Mary Sue Willie ,
the Saint Elizabeth's Director of Music and organist or call her at (h)(978) 369-2363 or the church office (978) 443-6035.
The Meaning of the Cross - February 29 to March 28 at 7:30 pm
A course on the meaning of the cross will be held Feb 29, Mar 7, 14, 21, and 28. The course is open to adults and older children, who will surely provide some surprising insights. Each evening will include dinner
at 6:30 pm and the course from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm.
The course will address many questions. Why did it take Christians 500 years to finally portray Christ on the cross?, How did the crucifixion get associated with the Eucharist?, Why did crucifixes get more and more awful looking in the Middle Ages?, Why wasn't Jesus portrayed as dead on the cross until 700 years after it happened?, Why do Roman Catholics have crucifixes and Protestant churches have plain crosses?
If the idea of Christ dying on the cross makes you wonder what in the world was God thinking when he decided this was the way to save us, this course is for you. Each week we will explore a different way of looking at the cross. Roughly tracing the history of the cross's significance, the course will show how its meaning changed over time, and how those changes can help us today to understand what the cross means for each of us.
The course will use a variety of media, including art, music and poetry in its exploration. Discussion will be an integral part of what goes on. The course will be broken down as follows: Feb 29: The Cross as the Glory of God, Mar 7: The Cross as the Victory of the Lamb, March 14: The Cross as the Death of Christ, March 21: The Cross and Suffering, March 28: The Cross in the Age of Reason and the Holocaust. This course is open to all. A simple dinner of soup & salad will be served a prior to the presentation at 7:30 pm. The cost of dinner and course is $10 per person per week (family maximum of $20). To attend just the course at 7:30pm, the cost is $5 (family maximum of $10). Supper and the class will be in the parish hall. Sign up by emailing Chris Visminas or calling 508-820-7335. Any checks should be made out to St Elizabeth's Church, with Lent course in memo line.
Parish Photo Directory Picture Taking - February 28 to March 31
Have you ever sat in church, looked across the aisle, and seen someone whose name you didn’t know but felt that you should? You feel embarrassed. You go home, you look at your five-year-old parish photo directory, but they aren’t there. Well, we are about to solve this problem.
In the next few months, we will be creating a new parish photo directory. This new directory is so important, not only to document who we are and what we do, but because it is a wonderful way for everyone, especially newcomers, to know other members of our community.
Please signup at Olan Mills for one of these dates:
- Tuesday, February 28 (2 – 9:30pm)
- Wednesday, February 29 (2 – 9:30pm)
- Friday, March 30 (2 – 9:30pm)
- Saturday, March 31 (9:30am – 5:30pm)
We want everyone in the directory – including you and your family. Please make an appointment at Olan Mills to have your family/household’s photo taken at St Elizabeth's.
Men's Group - Monthly on Saturdays
The joint St. John and St. Elizabeth men's group have given all of us who attended a chance to
talk about our faith journeys in a supportive setting. Breakfast will be provided, followed by an open discussion
led by one (or two) of our members. Guests of our church members are welcome to attend.
We will continue to meet monthly on a Saturday of each month, location alternating between the churches, so mark your calendar now to ensure you reserve the date and time.
Please contact
Jonas Barciauska or
Walter Morgan (978-443-3501)
if you plan to attend so we can be prepared for the right number of attendees.
Bible Study - Tuesdays
Parishioners meet in the conference room from 9:30 am to 11:00 am for Bible study with the Rector. We will begin with the study of the Gospel of Matthew beginning at Chapter 18. Everyone is welcome.
Choir Rehearsals - Thursdays
We are seeking new members to join the lively Adult Choir which is open to those in 9th grade and up. The Adult Choir rehearsals are Thursday evenings at 7:00 pm.
Also the enthusiastic Youth Choir sings every Sunday, warming up with the adults at 9:30 am, going to church school, returning during the offertory and usually singing during Communion. After a
quick break for juice and cookies, children return to the balcony to rehearse for a half hour. These choirs, whose
goal is to provide music that will enrich worship, enjoy congenial social and extra events. There are also musical opportunities for instrumentalists to provide enhancement to our services.
For more information please email Mary Sue Willie ,

Church School - Sundays
Your children are welcome to join church school programs anytime of the year. Church schools begin at 9:45 am.

religious formation of children. It is rooted in the Bible and the liturgy of
the church, using the educational principles of Maria Montessori. More COGS information
is available at the National Association of the Catechesis of the Good Shepard.
Journey to Adulthood (ages 11-17) is a youth ministry program of
spiritual formation for 6th - 12th grades. St. Elizabeth's uses all three segments of the program.
Rite-13 is a two-year program for 11-13 year-olds. J2A for 14-15 year-olds is also a two-year program.
The third segment of the Journey to Adulthood program called Young Adults in the Church (YAC) is for 16-17 year olds.
